With our current issue The Essential Worker, we have published, 49 online chapbooks — 26 fiction, 5 CNF/memoir and 5 poetry collections, each featuring one author — and 13 anthologies by multiple authors. The anthologies may also be downloaded as pdfs. Most of the collections are available as epubs.
We are pleased and proud to showcase diverse and talented writers, whether they be emerging newbies or old hands with a long list of publishing credits. We read submissions blind, always on the alert for genuinely excellent writing. ALL AUTHORS ARE PAID and have been since this journal was launched in 2010.
PUSHCART NOMINATIONS:
We nominated work by five authors for a 2023 Pushcart award, three from our 2022 anthology Up-Ending:
Nancy Bourne’s story “Somewhere a Phone Is Ringing”
Joyce Goldenstern’s story “His Heroic Courtesies”
Mary Cuffe Perez
’s nonfiction (memoir) “Chico”
And one each from our 2022 fiction collections:
Victoria Melekian’s story “How to Spell Egypt”
Malcolm Dixon’s story “More’s Utopia”
Submissions are currently closed and will open again January 1, 2024. We have two reading periods each year, usually January-February and May-mid-July.
Previously published echapbooks may be read in the ARCHIVES or ordered as Kindle or Smashwords ebooks. We are building a list of e-pubs in our e-STORE that can be added to your library. Older issues and the annual anthologies are not available as ebooks but as dowloadable pdf files.
Each collection has its own professional design. We collaborate with authors to edit their work.
In many (though not all) issues, hyperlinks to photos, videos, background articles, maps, poetry and artwork add new dimensions to the online reading experience.
Please visit the site again and often. We will be offering our readers a wide variety of original, high quality writing in the years to come.
